Message from Grace June 2023

Thank you to everyone for your kind donations which help us run the EKO school in Ngong, Kenya. I wanted to update you on what we have achieved so far this year and what our next steps are.

What EKO has done in 2023 so far…

  • We reopened for the new school year in February, working alongside another school in Simba Village who also help poor and orphaned children in our district.
  • We are focusing on early years, from nursery up to aged 7 to help provide a good educational foundation.
  • In March we were visited by an artist from the UK who spent 3 weeks in our classrooms speaking to the children and encouraging them to experiment with art.
  • We are providing the children with a meal at lunchtime because hungry children find it difficult to learn.
  • We now have 5 classrooms and 55 regular pupils!
  • We employ 6 teachers and a chef.
  • In March we carried out some renovations: planting trees, rebuilding classrooms and re-painting.
  • We have bought school uniforms and textbooks.

Our goals moving forward…

  • Fundraising for a more permanent (stone) building.
  • Continuing to fund teachers’ wages.
  • Continuing to provide the essential school meals.

Our monthly expenses…

  • Wages for junior teacher = £100
  • Wages for senior teacher = £150
  • Wages for the chef = £75
  • Caretaker / Security = £75
  • Food for lunches = £275
  • Electricity / Water / Internet = £75

How you could help…

  • Any donation, no matter how big or small will go directly towards helping the children in our school.
  • £15 Is enough to feed one child for a month.
  • £15 Is enough to pay school fees for one child for a month.
  • £20 is enough to supply full uniform for a child – shirt, shorts, trousers / dress, sweater
  • Or you could help fund one of our teachers.
  • DO YOU HAVE A SKILL THAT OUR CHILDREN WOULD LOVE TO LEARN? MAYBE YOU SING OR PLAY FOOTBALL? WE LOVE WELCOMING VOLUNTEERS TO OUR SCHOOL.
